We were invited to play during the fiesta in Panay Capiz and we've asked the organizer to prepare us some things like PA system, drum kit, keyboards and guitar amplifiers. We didn't know that it was their first time to have a full band and they normally just do like a disco or just plain sound system. It was really a disaster when we came there early in the afternoon for our sound check.
We've brought almost all our stuff from drum kit which is Power Beat to Yamaha PSR 500 as well as keyboard stand and our practise amp which is Rage Amps 15 watt in the Philippines but when you look inside it is made from USA the chasis. We improvised everything that night, so we mic in the little amps we got into their disco sound system.
The sound was not bad but not impressive, it could have been better. The funny thing and most memorable thing for me was when we went on stage for our sound check, I was wearing my Black T-shirt with "The Undertaker's" photo on it. There was a kid, who approached me and said, "Are you going to play any Metallica song?" The poor kid thought I'm the lead singer/guitarist and we were a rock band, and I replied to him, "we are playing some danceable songs." Then, I went straight to the keyboards that the organizers prepared for me and to my surprise it was a mini-keyboard on a grade school pupil mini table. As in I was sat on a very small chair and a low table and like a toy keyboards, it was totally a joke. Plus, I was wearing this Black T-shirt and black jeans. That's why we hurriedly get our own stuff, like the proper keyboard stand and the Yamaha PSR 500.
The gig went well. The people dance. It was a peaceful fiesta, no fights or casualties. My family and my band mates family were there, very supportive as ever and some of my cousins, it was their first time to see me in a band playing on stage. I can only imagine if I was using that mini-keyboards.
