First gig in Manila

I was working in a medical transcription company in Makati and after nearly a year, I found fellow musicians.  We started like a choir and I'm their guitarist and during birthdays especially with bosses and managers, we try to sing their favourite song in a choir arrangement with just a classical guitar accompaniment.

Then, later on we formed a band with Rodel on drums, Greg on Keyboards, Zarelle on bass then later on had a sessionist "Amboy" bassist, sorry can't remember the name, then loads of vocalist as I've said we were originally a choir.... Shoan, Chelo, Sherwin and Bing.  We used to practise in Mang Alberto's rehearsal studio near Nepa Q-Mart.  We used to commute via MRT and sometimes, Greg's car.  The studio was all right because all the instruments and amplifiers are all ready there.  From drums, can't remember exactly what brand, one Fender guitar amp and one Peavey guitar amp, Carlsbro bass amp, Casio keyboards I think but my mate Greg prefers Roland, hehehe. It was such a memorable experience.

Our finale gig was during our farewell party held in Mondragon Hall in Buendia Makati.  I was using RJ Shark electric guitar that I borrowed from JR as well as a stomp box.  I can't afford to buy a guitar for myself that time.  The effects pedal was Metal Rocker by Denio, which sounded like no other, hard to explain if it's out of order or something's wrong with it or it's just a cheap pedal.  I would suggest go for Boss single stomp box effects pedal because even though it's expensive but still it will last you a lifetime plus the quality is totally classic.  Anyways, we had fun during those days.

Our favourite songs are, Time After Time by Tuck and Patty, 'Til They Take My Heart Away by Clair Marlo, Foolish Heart by Steve Perry, Paglisan by Color It Red and the usual Buttercup, Give It Up, VST and Co Medley, I Will Survive and a lot more that I can't remember.  And, we call ourselves Network Neighborhood.

this was my very first gig as well...i remember being very scared backstage and one member of the other band told me, "wala yan, just look at the lights, di mo sila kita.." i followed her advice and indeed, i just imagined that nobody was watching me..every time na hina-"harass" ako by some of my friends to sing on stage, i still do that, LOL!

Oh man, good ol' days :)

My Mobile Recording Studio

My mobile laptop recording studio This does not mean having a portable handheld recording device and also this is not the proper recording studio, which have all the complete amenities and gear but what I mean when I say Mobile recording studio is that this is something that can be transferred to any location and set up as quickly as you can. Like for example, in my case, I don’t have a proper recording studio or room to record so sometimes I’m doing it in our lounge or other times I will set it up in our dining area or sometimes in our bedroom.   Also by saying mobile recording studio, in any case I’m moving to another place I can easily pack up things and bring it with me like for example I’m here in England as of now and if ever I’m going back home in the Philippines after my contract expires, I can easily bring my recording studio gear and equipment back home.   So, this is not an on-site recording studio or a portable recording studio this is just my own mobile l...

One Love for Abra Charity Concert at The Star of Kings London

Had a wonderful time doing a charity gig for Abra, an island back home in the Philippines where children there are too eager to learn, however, they don't have a proper or decent school to study and no school supplies.  The project was very successful.  Port Mallilin and Carol Panday invited artists from Pilipino Musikero sa UK and loads pledged their support.  Also among the acts were Arisxandra Libantino, the pride of Filipinos in Britain who was one of the finalists. I am the guitarist of Crossedwind and we are dubbed as the House Band during the gig. We opened the event and then we were the closing act.  It was a fun night.  There were some challenges though.  Like for example, although myself and Ashley (sound director) were early to set up the amps and instruments, the pub's sound guy didn't like that we brought guitar, bass, and keyboard amps because it's going to be too loud.  He just want us to use their monitor speakers and house spea...

Front Act on Introvoys Concert in Roxas City

We were invited to do a front act on Introvoys Concert in Roxas.  During those time, Introvoys was a big hit especially with their song Line To Heaven and Will I Survive to name afew. There were a lot of bands that time who's going to front act and I can't remember exactly the names but there's one that I can still remember and it's called Freaky Deaky, not sure if the spelling is correct. They sang Nirvana, Offspring, Collective Soul, etc. where they almost consume the entire time for all the frontacts.  We were the last band and the organizer asked us to cut short with our setlist and we ended up with just 3 songs.  We were not pleased but anyhow, we still chose our 3 best songs and that were Only Wanna Be With You by Hootie And The Blowfish where I was the one who sang it, To Be With You by Mr. Big and our bassist, Dolores sang it then our last song was Hotel California by Eagles where Jingle and I blend together at the ending guitar solo and Louie sang it. The crowd...
