First gig in Manila

I was working in a medical transcription company in Makati and after nearly a year, I found fellow musicians.  We started like a choir and I'm their guitarist and during birthdays especially with bosses and managers, we try to sing their favourite song in a choir arrangement with just a classical guitar accompaniment.

Then, later on we formed a band with Rodel on drums, Greg on Keyboards, Zarelle on bass then later on had a sessionist "Amboy" bassist, sorry can't remember the name, then loads of vocalist as I've said we were originally a choir.... Shoan, Chelo, Sherwin and Bing.  We used to practise in Mang Alberto's rehearsal studio near Nepa Q-Mart.  We used to commute via MRT and sometimes, Greg's car.  The studio was all right because all the instruments and amplifiers are all ready there.  From drums, can't remember exactly what brand, one Fender guitar amp and one Peavey guitar amp, Carlsbro bass amp, Casio keyboards I think but my mate Greg prefers Roland, hehehe. It was such a memorable experience.

Our finale gig was during our farewell party held in Mondragon Hall in Buendia Makati.  I was using RJ Shark electric guitar that I borrowed from JR as well as a stomp box.  I can't afford to buy a guitar for myself that time.  The effects pedal was Metal Rocker by Denio, which sounded like no other, hard to explain if it's out of order or something's wrong with it or it's just a cheap pedal.  I would suggest go for Boss single stomp box effects pedal because even though it's expensive but still it will last you a lifetime plus the quality is totally classic.  Anyways, we had fun during those days.

Our favourite songs are, Time After Time by Tuck and Patty, 'Til They Take My Heart Away by Clair Marlo, Foolish Heart by Steve Perry, Paglisan by Color It Red and the usual Buttercup, Give It Up, VST and Co Medley, I Will Survive and a lot more that I can't remember.  And, we call ourselves Network Neighborhood.

Subtle Culprits - new band to follow this 2015

I recently formed a group called Subtle Culprits. It was pure luck to meet all these awesome musicians. It all started with JoinMyBand.  I was desperate for a vocalist and do some acoustic duo so I posted on JoinMyBand as well as Gumtree some ads that Im interested for a vocalist to collaborate with and that Im based in Romsey. There were people who showed interest i.e. emailed me and contacted me. There was one as well who came and visited for an audition. I really admired her voice but still didn't work out because it took me awhile to contact her back after that audition due to moving houses. Anyways, she did not reply or show any interest after that. So, I continued trying my luck. The first one to join was Dan. He got interested because we are from the same area (Romsey). So he messaged me and said that he is a songwriter and a musician. Can play guitar but much comfortable with the bass. So we arranged a meetup and chat, and we did. Exchanged some ideas and songs online...

I mentored a band from scratch

I was first year college, studying nursing when a group of youngsters from Capiz National High School asked  me to help them form a band.  Their band leader was Betong who was the brain of this brilliant idea.  None of the group plays instrument although most of them got knowledge of what the band is and what instruments like drums, keyboards, bass and guitars.  Anyway to cut the story short, the band was starting from scratch or not even scratch because I haven't heard them playing or singing or if they really got the talent or just the guts to do it.  So, I asked them how many are going to join the band and who's going to sing, play the drums, the guitar, the bass and the keyboards if ever?  And because they were all classmates and good friends so they have already decided on who's who and what instrument to play.  I started with the guitarist, which is Daboy and he doesn't know yet how to play the guitar as in proper guitar playing, all he knows is ...
