My first recording experience

I went to Norwich, a couple days back with my band, Crossedwind, to record our original compositions.  We've been exchanging on the net about ideas and backing tracks on our songs.  We made use of our celphones, recording our raw materials... pretty rough record but we managed  Then, I keep doing the backing tracks so that my bandmates can rehearse the song whilst Im away because I live here in Southampton.  To cut the story short, we almost managed to practise and finalised our songs virtually. We have four songs to record, so I arrived in Norwich last May 22 at around 6 pm, went straight to Earth Studio to rehearse.  It was like an overnight practise and then due for recording the following day.  We struggled a little bit, because backing tracks was far from doing the real thing with my bandmates.  There were changes made from intro, on how the adlib would sound, up to how we'll do the ending of the songs and so forth.  Even after our rehe...

iPad mobile recording home studio

I used to record using my netbook and here's my blog about it " How I setup my mobile recording studio ;" however, recently some of my friends ask me about cheap recording and I found that what I was using in a sense is not that cheap because I bought my USB audio interface and the recording software separately and not to mention the price of the netbook or laptop for that matter.  Now I was researching on how to record guitar or vocals with just backing tracks and that's when the idea of iPad recording came about. A lot of us now own iPad1 or iPad2 or mini-iPad.  Well, we can convert this into a proper recording equipment.  There are just a couple of things to do or to buy.  First is to purchase from App store Garageband then second is to buy an audio interface.  I found that the Line 6 In Mobile Interface  is the cheapest one to use.  You can use this if you're recording guitar or bass and even during home rehearsals because in the garageband you...

Sepra Music Studio

Louie and I put up a music studio in Roxas City Capiz round about year 2007.  We've consolidated all our instruments, amps and other equipments. Found a not-so-ideal place to rent, but managed to convert it into a music studio and this was at Celino Bldg. just outside our house in Luna Novicio St. Roxas City. Whilst we were processing the necessary documents, permits, etc. which Tito Vic (Louie's uncle) helped us a lot, I've closed the deal with the building owner Mr. Angel Celino and agreed and signed the contract.  We then started building the studio.  Although Louie is in New York working as a Dialysis Nurse, the support Im getting from him is not only limited to financial assistance but as a true friend and a business partner.  We've shared the initial monetary investment 50/50; however, he's already invested on the instruments which he managed to collect since high school and college days like the Powerbeat drumkit, Lyon by Washburn electric guitar, Fender Pr...

Crossedwind frontact in Bamboo's gig Colchester

Bamboo Live in Colchester 2013 I wanted to share this video guys taken during our opening act with Bamboo's concert in Colchester last April 6, 2013.  It was an amazing night.  We had lunch with Bamboo and his band in Rovers Tye pub in Colchester. I had 5 oz rump steak.  It was delicious.  Then around 2 pm we headed to Colchester Leisure World for soundcheck.  The PA system was not yet fully setup because of health and safety paperworks and documentation, which was the cause of delay but finally it was done and they started setting up.  Bamboo's band was the first one to do their soundcheck then around half past six we had our chance to do the soundcheck. The crowd was already there and you can see their eagerness and excitement.  They were really supportive and I might add that they are really wild crowd.  I can see from the stage that they were drinking Red Horse.  I think the Brits loved it as well.  It was new to their taste ...

Prelude to Bamboo's concert Colchester

I received a late night call from my Uncle in Norwich.  He asked me if I heard about Bamboo's concert tour in the UK and I said yes.  He asked me if Im going to watch the concert and I said I got no time, too busy with work.  Then my Uncle said what about if I asked you to play during the concert because I know a band here who will be doing a frontact in Bamboo's concert and they're looking for a guitarist.  And then my thoughts suddenly changed.  So, we talked about why they needed the guitarist, when and where the concert is and my uncle gave me the contact details of the band. I found the band on Facebook and also on YouTube and they're called Crossedwind.  We've made arrangements and had a chat on the phone. I gave my details as well as my website www.vincentryanborres.com and we went from there. Now, I got the list of the songs we're going to play.  Set our rehearsal dates because it's a long journey for me to go to Norwich where the group stay...

Guitar Central near Bargate on Boxing Day

I went to Southampton post Boxing Day because I was working long day during boxing day.  I went straight to Guitar Central and have a look what's on sale and it was a total BARGAIN.  I was drooling from guitar amps to effects pedal and most especially the electric guitars.  ESP, Dean, Washburn and one of my favorite brand, Gretsch.  There was a guy playing this semi-hollow Gretsch and I was with my son that time in his pushchair, I was really amazed by the sound of the guitar.  It was plugged in a Randall guitar amp stack, I am not sure but it looks like a tube amp. The Randall KH-15, a Kirk Hammett's signature practise amp was on super sale and by the way, Kirk Hammett was born to a Filipino mother and an Irish American father, so technically Kirk is half Filipino.  Kirk is an avid ESP guitar user and was using Mesa/Boogie before he made his move to Randall Amplifiers. There are junior electric guitar as well that was on sale, guitar books and D...
